BACKGROUND:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Group of Experts in Metallogeny and Mineral Resources of ASGMI was created in 2018, in compliance with the agreements of the Workshop on the Metallogenic Map of Central America and the Caribbean, held that year in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The initial objective was to elaborate the aforementioned map under the coordination of Dr. Eduardo Zappettini, at that time Director of the Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the Argentinian Geological Mining Service -SEGEMAR-, and currently President of SEGEMAR itself.<\/p>\n

The group was strengthened in 2019 with the incorporation of new members, and especially by the impact of the theoretical-practical course on Metallogeny and Metallogenetic Cartography that, organized by SEGEMAR and directed by Dr. Mart\u00edn Goz\u00e1lvez, coordinator of the group, took place in Buenos Aires, Salta and Jujuy, Argentina, in November 2019, with the support and sponsorship of ASGMI by granting scholarships to professionals of the geological services members of the Association.<\/p>\n

MISSION AND VISION OF THE GROUP OF EXPERTS IN METALLOGENY AND MINERAL RESOURCES:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The initial mission<\/strong>, as indicated, was the realization of the Metallogenetic Map of Central America and the Caribbean<\/strong>, a mission that with the expansion of the group of experts has been extended to other objectives such as the updating of the metallogenetic information that supports the Metallogenetic Map of South America, the elaboration of a cartography of critical minerals in the region, and to promote training in the field of professionals working in the geological services members of ASGMI.<\/p>\n

The vision<\/strong> of the group is to become a nucleus of reference in the knowledge of the mineral resources of Ibero-America, contributing to the valorization of the mining potential of the region through the development and dissemination of basic and specialized information on the subject.<\/p>\n

SHORT AND MEDIUM TERM OBJECTIVES:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In 2022, it was proposed to resume the objectives set in previous years. Specifically, to maintain the cooperation links between the geological risk departments of the geological services with the representatives in the GEAG. This was proposed especially with regard to sharing information on events likely to cause natural catastrophes, proposing, if necessary, the signing of the necessary agreements and the realization of the inventory of mass movements in Ibero-America at the operational level.<\/p>\n
