ASGMI. Geological Heritage Sites in Ibero-America.
The Association of Ibero-American Geological and Mining Services (ASGMI) is proud to present this publication dedicated to the Geological Heritage Sites of Ibero-America. This work has been made possible thanks to the dedication of the Geological Heritage Experts Group and reinforces one of ASGMI’s core commitments: promoting geoscientific knowledge as a foundation for the sustainable development of communities.
Since its inception, ASGMI’s fundamental mission has been to strengthen cooperation among its member geological services. This cooperation aims to address global challenges such as climate change, natural resource management, and geological disaster prevention, all within a framework of respect for the natural and cultural diversity of our region. Our vision aligns with the growing social awareness of environmental preservation and the responsible management of mineral, water, and energy resources.
In this regard, the “Declaration of Huasca de Ocampo,” signed by ASGMI members at the XXIX Ordinary General Assembly held in 2024, highlights the value of geodiversity and geological heritage as fundamental elements for the economic and social development of communities.
The recognition and promotion of these resources, as reflected in this publication, are key to fostering initiatives such as Geoparks and geological tourism, while also raising awareness of the importance of preserving our geological heritage —an invaluable record of our planet’s history and a strategic resource for future generations.
On behalf of ASGMI’s Secretariat, we extend our gratitude to all those from various geological services who have contributed to this valuable initiative, whose impact will endure as a reference for the protection and enjoyment of geological heritage in Ibero-America.
