BACKGROUND:
The Group of Experts in Museums and Lithotheques Network-GERM- is created to comply with the Agreements of the XXIV ASGMI General Assembly held in August 2018 Salta, Argentina, with the aim of contributing and promoting the conservation and enhancement of movable geological heritage, as well as educational activities in geology. In principle, the geology, paleontology and mining museums existing in the geological services members of ASGMI would be part of the working group.
The Group is coordinated by Dr. Nathalia Wilkelmann Roitberg of the Serviço Geológico do Brasil with Dr. Zélia Pereira of the Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia as deputy coordinator.
MISSION AND VISION OF THE GROUP OF EXPERTS IN MUSEUMS AND LITHOTHEQUES NETWORK
According to the criteria considered for its creation, the mission of the group is to promote the conservation and enhancement of movable geological heritage, in a broad sense, as well as educational activities in the field of geology.
The vision is to develop geological museums and to have in the near future a common web platform incorporating visual information from the different museums that make up the Network with the general objective of giving greater visibility to them and to the joint work of ASGMI.
SHORT AND MEDIUM TERM OBJECTIVES:
In the short and medium term, the GERM aims to:
- Writing a joint article showing the importance of conservation and dissemination of movable geological heritage, and how Geological Surveys contribute to this objective through their museums and/or related departments.
- Define specific lines of work to give visibility to the activity carried out in Geological Museums and the role they play in the conservation and dissemination of geological heritage and geodiversity.
