Copper, known as the “new oil” by industry experts, is a critical raw material for the energy transition. For instance, an electric vehicle requires between 40 and 80 kg of this metal for its manufacturing, nearly four times more than one with an internal combustion engine.
The demand for copper is set to skyrocket by almost 600% by 2030 due to the shift in energy and transportation models: decarbonization won’t be possible without copper.
In this context, the Ibero-American Geological and Mining Services Association, highlighting the role that Geological Services play as producers of the geological information necessary for the identification and evaluation of copper deposits’ potential, presents the virtual event “The Geology of Copper in Latin America,” organized by its “Expert Group on Metallogeny and Mineral Resources.”
The event will take place via Google Meet on September 27th and 28th, during the following schedule:
7 a.m. – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua
8 a.m. – Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru
